waddling duck

lately i've been feeling like a somewhat strangely oversized, clumsy and forgetful, waddling duck. it is really quite amazing how i can go from feeling so in wonder and awe about the baby to feeling like a strange new creature of sorts who can no longer bend over and tie her shoes without hurting herself and making strange noises. actually, those feelings are often going on simultaneously. i was talking to my friend jenni this morning about how difficult it is to think that life will happen beyond the moment we are in. she was pregnant. now she is taking care of her very real little girl day in and day out. she isn't pregnant anymore. amazing. everything that seems to be happenning in our life right now revolves around preparing for the day when we will no longer be "expecting" asher's arrival. yet, my mind is prone to believe i will be waddling and pregnant everyday until i die or jesus comes back.

a name

we finally did it. we have picked a name for our little son and have announced it to our families. we even made paper-mâché letters of his name for the nursery. changing it now would be a little difficult. i mean, we would have to tell everyone and buy all new letters. don't get me wrong, we love the name we have chosen and we really aren't thinking about changing it. i've just realized that it is a bit of a step of faith to name someone you have never met. it makes me realize how there is a larger-than-can-be-seen-story unfolding that is far beyond us yet is intricately connected to us in this new little life. asher james burgoyne, we can't wait to meet you!

our little bump

the newest little addition to our family is now only known as the bump that once was my belly. as of yesterday, i am 32 weeks along. matt and i cannot wait to meet our little son! of course, we are not only excited, but also terrified. becoming parents and bringing another person into the mix of us; that will be so tiny and dependent and foreign,...is an adventure in every sense of the word. we are thankful that God keeps us on our toes and more importantly, in need of him for even the smallest things in life.
